My work is based on a human desire to connect to place, heritage, and the present. After years of cross-country travel, I explore my identity as a white American and my changing relationship with home and the natural world. I create nostalgic collages of the past, blending my experiences with dreams, stories I’ve heard, and new plants and symbols I come across. I intend to illustrate a sense of rootedness that provides solace and leads me to the relevant truths beneath my fragmented cultural memory.
As for me: I am trying to finish my Fast Friday Fabric Challenge piece using layering, working on depth, incorporating trapunto, based on the subject matter of "the animal kingdom." Yesterday I sucessfully added surface paint to my fabric top; today and tomorrow I am hoping to finish the quilting and binding. It's just a study, not a major piece, and that's refreshing. Something to experiment on, learn from, and then, move on!
This is also the weekend that the Sea Ranch Design Committee makes a decision about approving the architectural submittal for my proposed studio.
And, I am listening to André Agassi's autobiography, Open.
Those are my non-Twitter twitters.
