Acrylic Painting on Silks
I'd never done this before: painting layers of China Silk, Habothai silk, batiste, and organza with watered down acrylic paints. Prizewinning Philadelphia textile artist Emily Richardson taught a workshop for East Bay Heritage Quilters and I was fortuntate to attend last Monday. The morning was spent painting -- in a way that totally captivates the Inner Child. A great activity for recovering perfectionists . . . hmmm, how would I know that? The silks dried fast, out in the sun, while we had lunch. After a slide show and some design exericses as "warm ups," we cut and manipulated our newly painted fabrics to create two small compositions. We only had limited time, so I will play with these some more before I begin stitching, but I wanted to share them because it was all so fun! I'll re-post photos when I finish them. To see some of Emily's work, visit Gross McCleaf Gallery's website.
